Food for Thought: It’s Not Easy Being a Barn Owl with Ginger Andrews
Ginger will present a short history of Nantucket Barn Owls, talk about her on-going research at the edge of Barn Owl range, and the insights due to her close relationship growing up with them.
Ginger Andrews is a fifth-generation Nantucketer, daughter of fisherman Clinton Andrews (who came from the branch of a whaling family that stayed home) and Ornithologist Edith Folger Andrews (whose family had Nantucket roots). She grew up roaming all over the central moors, going fishing and scalloping with her father and uncle, and learning about birds and plants from her mother. Growing up around birds, both inside and outside the house, Ginger learned how to handle, rehab, and feed them. She even caught their food, when necessary. She is currently the staff ornithologist at the Maria Mitchel Association, and writes a column on birding for the I&M, and is a lifetime member of the AAN.
In partnerhip with Maria Mitchell Association.
