    Women + Wellness 2020

Free Virtual Event on “Emotional Labor” During the Pandemic

(August. 14, 2020) The island’s only summer event dedicated exclusively to women’s health returns this month with Nantucket Cottage Hospital’s fourth annual Women + Wellness event as a free, virtual program.

Amid the stresses of the ongoing pandemic, many people have expressed feeling overwhelmed, excessively tired, foggy, or just simply under mental strain. They may be experiencing something called “emotional labor,” a phenomenon that involves the exertion of energy for the purpose of addressing other people’s feelings, trying to make them feel comfortable, or seeking to live up to social expectations.

The 2020 Women + Wellness event will feature a virtual panel of Nantucket speakers presenting on what emotional labor is, how to recognize it, and resources to help during these challenging times. The presentation will be followed by a live Q&A.

Th 2020 event is being chaired by Sarah Newton, a strong supporter of NCH and a member of the hospital’s Marketing and Development Committee. This year’s panelists and presentation topics include:
    • Sarah Munsen, Nantucket Cottage Hospital’s Social Services Manager - “Women and Emotional Labor in the Pandemic Age”
    • Lera Keller, Doula & Educator at Lera Keller Reproductive Journey Support - “Preventing Emotional Labor Burnout in Mothers through Support Building and Childbirth Preparation”
    • Charity Grace Mofsen, Community Advocate and DEI Consultant - “A Moment to a Movement: Sustaining the Emotional Labor”
