The Steamship Authority Announces Winners of Annual “Sail Into Imagination” Art Contest

Artwork unveiled and exhibited on July 23 at Cotuit Center for the Arts

The Steamship Authority, serving the communities of Barnstable, Fairhaven, Falmouth, Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket and New Bedford is pleased to announce the winners of their third annual art contest for kids in grades K-12 living in those port communities.

Conceived to engage students to celebrate our shared heritage of the sea, nearly 100 students submitted original artwork inspired by the theme “Sail Into Imagination.” Following a rigorous round of judging by a panel of experts, fourteen submissions were selected to be showcased in a 2019 calendar – one image for each month and one each for the front and back cover.

Artwork was reviewed and winners selected by judges: Nancy Pettibone, Cape Cod Artist and Art Teacher; Emily Mezzetti, Education Director, JFK Hyannis Museum; and Kimberly DuCharme Nickerson, Cape Cod artist.
The winners, outlined below, will be recognized at a celebratory reception to be held at the Cotuit Center for the Arts on Monday, July 23rd, from 5-7 pm.  Winning selections will be unveiled and displayed at the museum during the reception.

In addition to having their artwork displayed on the Steamship Authority’s 2019 calendar, onboard the Steamship ferries and at the terminals, each winner will be awarded a $100 gift card for passenger travel aboard a ferry.

“All of entries we received showed tremendous talent and creativity,” said Robert Davis, General Manager of the Steamship Authority. “Our judges had a challenging task of selecting only fourteen, but we’re thrilled to congratulate these winners and showcase their talents aboard our vessels and in next year’s calendar.”
