  • “People, Places and Things” A Series of Three Exhibits at the Nirvana Coffee Company Showcase the Medium of Digital Art

(August 26, 2019 Barnstable) What is Digital Art? Three exhibits, “People, Places, & Things” at the
Nirvana Coffee Company offer some answers to this question by showing the diversity possible in this
new medium. The first and current exhibit, “People” will be on view until October 17. It will be followed
by “Places” beginning October 17. “& Things” will open on December 12.
“People” highlights the works of five artists. Barbara Barman’s work is painted on her iPad and focuses
on the use of color and figure to express her views on life and the subject in front of her. Rita
Colantonio uses her iPad to tell a story with photographs, textures, drawing, and stylistic effects. Textile
artist Kat MP Smith creates her images from photos on her iPad mini, prints them onto fabric, then
embellishes with beading and embroidery. Tom Long uses his computer and creates a composite of
photographs merged with dramatic lighting effects, harnessing a form of hyperrealism to tell a story.
Photographer Jim Walczak uses a DSLR to capture his portraits and a digital darkroom on his computer
to develop his vision resulting in a rich image full of ambience.
The show is sponsored by Nirvana Coffee Company in partnership with the Cape Cod Art Center, a
national leader in the mobile digital art movement. The art center offers classes for all levels of digital
artists photographers and brings in internationally recognized artists to teach workshops. Their Camera
Club meets the second and fourth Thursday of every month. They also offer a unique Digital Art Group,
which meets on the first and third Tuesday of every month. Visit www.CapeCodArtCenter.org for more
