USS Nantucket Official Crest Unveiling Monday, September 20

NANTUCKET, MA – The Nantucket Historical Association (NHA) will host the formal unveiling ceremony of the USS Nantucket s official crest, September 20 at 4 pm with free admission and online streaming.

The United States Navy (NSN) christened one of its newest Freedom-variant littoral combat ships (LCS), the USS Nantucket (LCS 27), earlier this summer on August 7, in Marinette, Wisconsin.

The USS Nantucket is the third U.S. Navy ship commissioned to honor the maritime history and spirit of Nantucket,” said Acting Secretary of the Navy Thomas Harker. I have no doubt the Sailors of USS Nantucket (LCS 27) will carry on the proud legacy from generations past in preserving sea lanes, countering instability, and maintaining our maritime superiority.”

The USS Nantucket Commissioning Committee and the officers and crew will present the ship s official crest and discuss how Nantucket history is symbolized within the newly designed seal. Attendees will learn about planning efforts for the Commissioning Ceremony and meet the crew members who bring the ship to life.

The president of the Commissioning Committee, Robert Gerosa, Commander, USN (Ret), Commanding Officer of USS Constitution, will be the MC host. The U.S. Navy Color Guard, the Commodore from the Littoral Class Combat Ships, and the Prospective Commanding Officer of USS Nantucket, Commander Kari Yakubisin, USN will be present. Also attending will be summer resident and ship sponsor and christener Polly Spencer, wife of Richard V. Spencer, the 76th Secretary of the U.S. Navy from 2017 to 2019.

For more information on how to attend, visit NHA.org or call 508-228-1894. Seating will have limited capacity, and reservations will be required.
