  • Artists Association of Nantucket Presents “Art From the Schools 2023: Junior Artists Grades 1 – 12''

AAN has been exhibiting Nantucket student art since 1950.

The student show will be on display in the

Big Gallery upstairs at 12 Straight Wharf starting on March 28.

Artists Association of Nantucket (AAN) is pleased to announce that starting on Tuesday, March 28, student art will be featured in the Big Gallery, upstairs on the second floor of the Thomas Macy Warehouse, 12 Straight Wharf.

All island students are invited to showcase their work from March 28 – April 4. An opening reception will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 4–5:15 P.M.

In addition, artwork from grades 9 – 12 will be eligible for the Lloyd Schultz Awards, presented in partnership with the Nantucket Arts Council to selected high school students. These special awards have been given since 2004 and are named in honor of the Schultz family, whose largess funds the program.

“The Junior Artists show is one of our honored Spring traditions,” said AAN artistic director Robert Frazier. “A large part of our mission is to encourage and foster young artists, so through this collaborative effort we are pleased to invite our island art teachers to display their students’ artwork in our gallery. We feel it is an important highlight of a student’s experience in the arts to have their work displayed in a professional space and to be on view for the entire community to enjoy,” added Frazier.

“Some of the past student winners have actually become AAN artist members and it is wonderful to have them exhibiting in our gallery on a regular basis. Located in Nantucket’s Cultural District, the Big Gallery is easily accessible by bicycle and the NRTA, so we look forward to welcoming everyone to this exciting show,” said AAN executive director Courtney Bridges.

This student show at the Big Gallery will run in conjunction with our Spring Thaw exhibition featured in the Cecelia Joyce and Seward Johnson Gallery at 19 Washington Street which begins March 17.

The Art From the Schools: 2023 Junior Artists Grades 1 – 12  exhibition will be on display from March 28 – April 4, at the Big Gallery, upstairs at 12 Straight Wharf. The gallery is open March 28 – April 3, 10 A.M. – 4 P.M., April 4, 10 A.M. – 1 P.M. Closed Sunday
