to install their climate change awareness work on buses.

Artists Association of Nantucket (AAN) is pleased to announce an exciting partnership with Nantucket’s WAVE buses, ACKlimate and Osceola Foundation, Inc. to bring youth and public awareness to climate change.  On Tuesday, December 7 at 10am at Cyrus Pierce School (CPS), Nantucket middle school art students will install their climate change awareness artwork on the side of the Wave buses. The theme for the project is "Climate Change: Past, Present, and Future."

As a result of an outreach idea led by ACKlimate, the Artists Association used the theme "Climate Change: Past, Present, and Future" to engage youth artists in a bus design project.
Paula Leary, NRTA transit administrator, and the team at NRTA graciously agreed to let three buses become a part of this outreach program and allow the students to install the artwork themselves.

Maura Wendelken, AAN teacher and artist member, and Cyrus Pierce School art teacher, has been integral in spearheading this project from idea to completion. She has guided the children to their finished artwork that was reproduced onto large-format magnets and will adhere to the buses.

“We are thrilled, and proud of the art students and their teacher, Maura, for bringing this important and beautiful installation to the public via the WAVE buses,” said Courtney Bridges, AAN executive director. To collaborate with these great organizations in the name of climate change awareness is an honor. It is the culmination of months of hard work, and we are so excited that the buses will be viewed by thousands!”

The installation will remain on the buses until spring 2022, and then will be moved to inside the WAVE/NRTA station. This project would not have been possible without the Osceola Foundation, Inc.

The public is invited to join Paula Leary of NRTA/WAVE, ACKlimate, the Osceloa Foundation, Inc., and AAN on Tuesday, December 7 at 10am at Cyrus Pierce School when a bus will be brought to CPS and the youth will install their large format magnets on the side of the bus.
