NANTUCKET LIGHTSHIP BASKET MUSEUM ANNOUNCES ALLISON LEVY AS NEW INTERIM EXECUTIVE
DIRECTOR TO LEAD MUSEUM
Nantucket, MA, September 22, 2020
Allison Levy has been promoted to lead the Nantucket Lightship Basket Museum as the museum enters its 21st year. Previously, Allison has been working at the museum in the roll of Deputy Director since the start of 2019. She has her bachelor’s degree from Mount Holyoke College where she studied Early American and European History. “Having an Interim Executive Director who has studied Early American History, with a special focus on New England History is a huge asset for our museum. We are thrilled to have Allison in this position to lead the museum forward.” said Sandie Owen, First Vice President and head of Human Resources.
“I am excited to be leading the museum into the future. The weaving of Nantucket lightship baskets is a traditional craft that is a Nantucket icon. I look forward to promoting the preservation, education and continuation of this craft" said Levy.

About the Nantucket Lightship Basket Museum - The Nantucket Lightship Basket Museum is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the awareness and appreciation of lightship baskets and their makers, by educating and engaging the public about the complexity of this art form unique to Nantucket, and placing it within a broader context of related crafts. The Museum is dedicated to preserving Nantucket’s rich history of basket making by exhibiting historic and contemporary baskets, providing a permanent home for lightship baskets, supporting scholarship of this art form, and encouraging and mentoring new generations of lightship basket makers.
