  • Nantucket Historical Association to Host Fiesta at the Whaling Museum In Collaboration with Partner Organizations on Island

The Nantucket Historical Association (NHA) will host the inaugural Fiesta at the Whaling Museum on Saturday, November 5from 1-4 pm. As the NHA’s definition of a community is broad and encompassing, it looks forward to engaging a larger part of the island community through this program. The Fiesta celebration is free and family-friendly.

“We are excited to join with the many different communities on island to celebrate their heritage, as well as provide an opportunity for islanders to gain exposure to and learn about Hispanic culture, which is an integral part of the year-round community on Nantucket,” says Niles Parker, Gosnell Executive Director.

Fiesta at the Whaling Museum attendees will enjoy an afternoon of music, dance performances by the Nantucket High School Diversity Club, cultural crafts, and the traditional Mexican game, Lotería, with prizes generously donated by island businesses such as The Beet, Stubbys, Saltbox Tavern & Table, and Bill Fisher Tackle. El Salvadoran food specialties will be served by Trading Post.

Partner organizations partaking in this community-wide occasion to celebrate Hispanic heritage include the Nantucket Atheneum offering children’s story time in Spanish and English during Fiesta at the Whaling Museum. The Nantucket Dreamland with a 7 pm screening of the film En el Séptimo Día (On the Seventh Day) following Fiesta at the Whaling Museum. As well as Linda Loring Nature Foundation with a Spanish version of their children’s story walk available at their visitor center throughout November.

“This program launches an initiative to build meaningful and lasting bridges between the NHA and the diverse cultural communities on Nantucket, as well as provide an opportunity for multiple organizations to join forces and work collaboratively to serve our island community together,” says Jocelyn Wong, Community Outreach Coordinator.
