  • Nantucket Chamber of Commerce Announces 2018 Scholarship Recipient

    For Immediate Release: June 28, 2018  NANTUCKET  The Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce has named Nantucket High School senior Tessa Whelden as the winner of its annual $1,000 scholarship.
    Twelve entrants submitted essays describing their life experience relative to the Chamber's mission, resumes listing their work experience and involvement in community service, and letters of recommendation. To be eligible for the award, candidates must be Nantucket residents and have been accepted at any accredited school or college.
    The Chamber Scholarship Committee chose Whelden for her impressive record of community service, outstanding academic achievement, and her passion in serving the island community in diverse ways. Tessa will be attending Wesleyan University in the fall.
    The Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1934 and incorporated in 1954. It is the primary organization dedicated to promoting the interests of the island business community. With over 675 business, nonprofit, and individual members, the chamber is also concerned with the ongoing viability and vitality of the historical, cultural, civic and environmental and recreational features that position Nantucket as a premier destination for visitors and provides a special way of life for its residents.
