The Nantucket Cultural Council has set an October 15th deadline for on-line funding applications. For proposals for community-oriented arts, humanities, and science programs from organizations, schools, and individuals to apply for grants that support cultural activities in the community. These grants can support a variety of artistic projects and activities on Nantucket — On-line and in person programing will be considered this year. For classes, exhibits, festivals, field trips, short-term artist residencies, or performances in schools, workshops, and lectures.

This is a great time to kickstart cultural programming options for consideration for 2021. The aim of the funding process is to support programming that eliminates financial barriers by supporting low and or no cost programming options for participants and guests to energize the arts at all levels for members of the Nantucket community. The funding is provided to offset program costs and allow this programming to come to fruition. Allowing organizations an opportunity to engage and serve new guests, or an existing population better.

The Nantucket Cultural Councils part of a network of 329 Local Cultural Councils serving all 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth. The LCC Program is the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation, supporting thousands of community-based projects in the arts, sciences and humanities every year. The state legislature provides an annual appropriation to the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency, which then allocates funds to each community. Community Members include Jordana Fleischut/ Chair, Emma Young/Treasurer/Secretary, as well as John J. McDermott, John Belash, Justin Cerne, Michael Kopko and Janet Schulte as the Town’s Art and Culture Liaison.

This year, the Nantucket Cultural Council will distribute over $9,000 in grants. The 2019 Previously funded projects include: Artists Association of Nantucket for funding the Senior workshops and showcases, Theatre Workshop of Nantucket for Costumes for “ The Holiday Musical”, Our island Home for an Old Time Sing Along, The Dreamland Foundation to fund the Dreamland Stage Company’s production of “13”, Small Friends of Nantucket for the Literacy through Puppets program by Liza Obremski.
