  • DayBreak Nantucket

Starting Monday, August 5, those who love and care about Nantucket, no matter where they might be in the world, can learn about the island every morning in their email in-box. Nantucket Radio and its popular local station 97.7 ACK-FM are launching DayBreak Nantucket, a daily summary of headline news and information about the island, published daily in season and several times weekly in other months, at about the time dawn breaks on Nantucket’s eastern shore.
In easy-to-digest headlines, readers will learn about important happenings on Nantucket from original sources including the Town of Nantucket and island groups, as well as other media outlets. Links will guide readers to in-depth reports. Gene Mahon’s Mahon About Town is DayBreak Nantucket’s go-to source for Nantucket arts and culture and what’s happening on the island social scene. DayBreak Nantucket will also include a brief daily weather forecast for the island.
Subscribers may sign up at DayBreakNantucket.com, where contents of the past emails will be available. The publishers will send DayBreak Nantucket to about 5,000 recipients initially and expect rapid subscriber growth. “This is a natural new venture for us,” said Nantucket Radio vice president and general manager Laura Burnett. “We’re already a daily source for on-air news about Nantucket. This will extend us into digital print, in what we intend to be a lively and entertaining way.”
Longtime Nantucket writer and editor William Ferrall will compile and edit DayBreak Nantucket. Ferrall is the founding editor of N Magazine on Nantucket and was founding editor of Nantucket Home, the redesigned and renamed publication of Nantucket Association of Real Estate Brokers. Ferrall has written for Boston Herald, People Magazine, The Advocate, several regional magazines, and for most Nantucket publications since moving to the island in 1990.
DayBreak Nantucket is published and distributed by Nantucket Radio, which includes two sister Nantucket radio stations locally owned and operated by longtime island residents Bob Shapiro and his son Jeff Shapiro. Commercial station WACK 97.7 FM airs adult album alternative music. Not-for-profit WNCK 89.5 FM is Nantucket’s National Public Radio affiliate, airing classical music with national and international news from NPR. Besides contemporary and classical music, both stations air extensive local news, weather, and special programming, originating from Nantucket Radio studios on Old South Rd.
