Artists Association of Nantucket Hosts 21st Annual Spring Sweep Auction in NEW ONLINE Format www.32auctions.com/SpringSweep2020

During this unprecedented time, The Artists Association of Nantucket (AAN) is reaching out to all members of our community & beyond to help “add a little color to your lives” by hosting a Shelter-in-Place Spring Sweep Instagram Preview Party and Online Auction, to be held on Friday and Saturday, April 10 and 11.

“2020 marks the organizations 75 th year on island, and in light of the current situation we are all facing, the AAN Board and Spring Sweep Committee are pleased to be able to offer this popular tradition in our new online format,” said AAN executive director Courtney Bridges. www.32auctions.com is the platform and it is super easy to access.

The online auction will open on Thursday afternoon, April 9 at 4 PM and guests may begin bidding immediately. The online auction continues through Friday April 10, and bidding will close on Saturday April 11 at 4 PM.

“As a special way to celebrate the new online auction format, we are excited to be hosting a digital party on Instagram (live@ackartists) on Friday April 10 at 7 PM where our ever-popular Peeper Punch recipe, originally made for us by Cisco/Triple Eight Distillery, will be available so you can make it at home yourselves,” added Bridges. “In this way we are still able to offer one of the beloved customs of our usual
Friday evening Spring Sweep preview party.”

“We’ve been hard at work determining a way to continue to offer our AAN supporters and community members a way to add to, or begin, an art collection and now more than ever, the AAN and our local artist members would be grateful for your on-going support,” said AAN artistic director Robert Frazier. “We are also extremely thankful to our longtime AAN artist member Sharon Woods Hussey, who has donated one of her works to be used as our signature piece for the auction.”

“As guests participate in the online auction, they will notice there is also a buy-it-now component—where pieces may be purchased outright—if for instance they found a favorite artist’s work, or didn’t have time to go back online,” added Frazier.

Spring Sweep chairs, Patty Keneally and Barbara Clarke, have been working closely with the committee to find a user-friendly platform, and 32auctions fits that request beautifully. All anyone needs to do is log onto www.32auctions.com and look for SpringSweep2020 and they’re in the auction. Art includes works in oil, acrylic, watercolor, mixed media, ceramics, and photography.

“As the island Shelters-in-Place and people navigate about in this new normal, we are pleased to be able to offer this opportunity for residents to enjoy a bright spot in their weekend. We remain grateful to our artists for their participation in this new Spring Sweep concept, and of course to all those who are working so diligently to keep our island safe,” added Bridges.

Special thanks are extended to our sponsors Permits Plus Inc., The Water Closet, and an Anonymous donation.

The AAN’s Cecelia Joyce & Seward Johnson gallery in the heart of Nantucket’s cultural district at 19 Washington St., and the Visual Arts Center (VAC) on 24 Amelia Drive remain closed until the island’s Shelter-in-Place ordinance is lifted.
