The Artists Association of Nantucket (AAN) is pleased to announce that Robert Frazier has been appointed Interim Executive Director.

Frazier has had a long career with AAN. He was first employed by AAN in 1973, became an artist member in 1974, was appointed president of the board from 1999-2004, then hired as Gallery Manager in 2005, and in 2010 he was promoted to Curator of Exhibitions.
Frazier is the founder of AAN’s annual Plein Air Festival, oversees AAN’s Permanent Collection of artworks, and has curated myriad popular permanent collection exhibitions. He has been curating the exhibitions at the Cecelia Joyce & Seward Johnson Gallery for over a decade. In addition to his long tenure, Frazier has strong family ties to the association. His mother, Barbara, was an established Nantucket painter, and his brother, Douglas, served as president of the board for the AAN fiscal year 1976-77.
“Frazier’s long career with AAN and knowledge of the association places him perfectly to step into the role of interim executive director,” said AAN Board President Nellie O’Gara. “With his expertise in all things AAN, Bobby will be excellent at carrying the association through this interim period.
In his new position, Frazier will work with the capable AAN staff and board of directors to continue the important work of bringing the visual arts to the Nantucket community. “I’m looking forward to working with both the staff and the board to steer us ahead these next few months,” said Frazier.

After ten years, Cecil Barron Jensen left the association to take on the role of Executive Director at ReMain Nantucket. The AAN is currently searching for a permanent Executive Director.

The mission of the AAN is to foster the visual arts on Nantucket by promoting, supporting and encouraging the work of Nantucket artists, providing educational programs in the arts, and preserving the legacy of Nantucket artists.
