Celebrate Juneteenth - Tune in Tonight!

Join us as we partner with the Nantucket Book Festival to commemorate “Juneteenth”, a celebration marking the actual end of slavery in the United States, as Texas was two and a half years behind the rest of the nation in enforcing Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation.

    Watch our Juneteenth
    program from last year!

This program remembered the day through selected readings, including:

    • The Significance of Juneteenth
    • Disturber of Tradition, A Portrait of Anna Gardner (selected passage read by author Barbara White)
    • The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass (selected passages)
    • Emancipation Proclamation (extract)
