AAN hosts 70th Artist/Patron Juried Exhibition

in the Cecelia Joyce & Seward Johnson Gallery

Artists Association of Nantucket (AAN) will host their annual Artist/Patron Exhibition, with an opening reception on Friday August 16, 6-8 P.M. The exhibition will be on display through Monday, September 2 in the Cecelia Joyce & Seward Johnson Gallery, 19 Washington Street.

“The first juried AAN Artist/Patron exhibition was held in 1949, so this summer marks the 70th year we’ve featured this long-standing tradition, and we are especially pleased that well-known island artist, loyal patron, and past AAN board president Katie Trinkle Legge will be this year’s juror,” said AAN artistic director Robert Frazier.

“Historically our artists bring in their strongest works for this special exhibition, which we consider one of the high points of our gallery season, where we showcase the best new works by the island’s premier artists.  This year marks the AAN’s seventy-fourth season, and we are delighted that Katie has agreed to be our juror,” added Frazier. “With her vast knowledge of island art, she will review assorted works in oils, acrylics, watercolor, photography, mixed media, and ceramics for recognition or awards.”

The Solo Show Spotlight Artist during this exhibition is Kathleen Van Lieu, who will discuss her art and techniques during an hour-long free and informal discussion at the Spotlight Series Artist talk on Saturday, August 17 at 10 A.M. at the gallery.

Generous support of the exhibition comes from our friends at O’Connor Custom Builders.

Artist /Patron exhibition will be on display from August 16–September 2 at the Cecelia Joyce & Seward Johnson Gallery, 19 Washington Street - in the heart of Nantucket’s Cultural District and a stone’s throw from Main St.

The gallery is open daily, Monday–Saturday 10 A.M.–6 P.M. (closed 2–2:30) and Sunday 11 A.M.–4 P.M.  To learn more about the AAN, visit the website at www.nantucketarts.org. For further information about AAN 2019 programs and events, please call 508-228-0722.
