    A.S.A.P. presents Island Cabaret

Nantucket, March 27, 2019 — Nantucket’s Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention (A.S.A.P.) is excited to announce  our exciting Island Cabaret, an evening promising to entertain, showcase local and national talent, and show that a substance free Friday night on the town can be a good time. The master of ceremonies for the evening will David Hayes, best known as the host of the Open Mic Night held weekly at the Nantucket Culinary Center.  His comedic stylings will be sprinkled in between performances of local singer Doug Cote, actress Sarah Fraunfelder and a set from everyone’s favorite reggae band, Foggy Roots, to name just a few of the featured acts.

    Subtle Prevention

People associate A.S.A.P.  with providing educational workshops and seminars for students,  parents and the larger community. These events cover important topics, such as this year’s Parenting Strategies: The Risky Teenage Years, our semi-annual Community Awareness Program: Understanding Addiction and next week’s A New Wave of Addiction: Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems.  These events directly educate the community on how to help deter youth from trying addictive substances, and learning about what new drug or device is now putting youth health at risk. “We felt our organization was lacking an emphasis on getting out and having fun. Coming together as a community and enjoying each other is an underutilized prevention strategy,” said Sue Mynttinen, Program Director, “so we looked at what resources we have and decided to start with showcasing and celebrating the island’s unique mix of talent.”

    Tickets Available

Tickets can be purchased directly through the Theatre Workshop website: https://theatrenantucket.org/events/a.s.a.p.-island-cabaret. Proceeds benefit A.S.A.P.’s programming.  The generous sponsorship of several island businesses have allowed us  beautiful Bennett Hall and to import some amazing comedic talent to round out the night.

A.S.A.P. is a tax-exempt non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation founded in 1995. The mission of A.S.A.P. is to foster a safe, healthy Nantucket community through education, awareness, advocacy and prevention strategies.
