NANTUCKET ISLAND CHAMBER ANNOUNCES ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP CELEBRATION AND 2019 AWARDS LINEUP

Nantucket, MA 5 August 2019 — David W. Martin, President & CEO of Nantucket Chamber, announced that Nantucket Chamber’s Annual Membership & Awards Celebration will be held Monday 23 September 2019 at 5:30PM at Nantucket Dreamland.

This year’s meeting will include a brief call to order to nominate and vote on new board members in the Dreamland’s main theater. Following the business portion of the meeting, members will enjoy a brief video introducing this year’s award winners individually. Further, David Martin – via the Dreamlands screen - will recap the accomplishments, innovations, and initiatives of the new organization. Chamber membership has increased by 25% in the past two years; the organization has developed a broader, more island-based focus; key staff members, have targeted initiatives in line with Chamber goals; the island welcomed several new air carriers, with Chamber support, servicing new destinations and growing airlift; Nantucket Island Center for Entrepreneurship (N.I.C.E) was inaugurated in January 2019. The foregoing was accomplished while maintaining Nantucket’s ascendancy as a top choice regional, domestic and international destination.

After this portion of the program, all will adjourn to The Harborview Room & Terrace and Studio Theater, on the popular top floor of the Dreamland Theater.

The Nantucket Chamber, its directors, staff, and members will recognize the Small Business of the Year (Lemon Press on Main Street); Volunteer of the Year (Marsha Egan, chair of the new Chamber

Education Committee); Tourism Advocate of the Year (Liz Holland of Hy-Line Cruises, a departing board member); The Chamber Legacy Award (Don Freedman of Freedman’s of Nantucket, celebrating 40 years of business downtown); and will present the 2019 Achievement of Merit Award to Margot Hartmann, MD, PhD, current CEO, Nantucket Cottage Hospital, who will retire after overseeing the construction and launch of the new NCH campus.

New Nantucket airline Southern Airways Express has been named as this year’s Presenting Sponsor. Additional sponsorship and tribute opportunities are also available.

“As head of the Chamber for almost two years, I have a far greater appreciation for the deep sense of community on Nantucket,” said CEO David Martin. “In addition to the Chamber’s accomplishments, made possible through its members, we celebrate these award winners as community leaders whose selfless good deeds and endeavors make a difference. Nantucket is one of the world’s leading destinations and an idyllic place to live, work and play. The Chamber’s perspective is viewed through multiple lenses — one which supports and promotes island businesses and another which markets and publicizes Nantucket as a high value destination to audiences near and far — regionally, domestically and internationally.”
