    About Us

Marine Mammal Alliance Nantucket, MMAN, works to respond, rescue, protect and advocate for marine mammals including whales, dolphins, porpoises and seals on and around Nantucket.

In agreement with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, a division of the Federal Government, MMAN is authorized to:
? Respond to all calls of distressed marine mammals with a trained team of volunteers
? Collect and share data with the scientific community while keeping stakeholders informed
? Promote policies that protect marine mammals and advocate for wildlife watching*

Nantucket's unique history was built upon and connects us to marine mammals. Approximately two hundred marine mammals are responded to yearly, giving Nantucket one of the highest response rates of coastal areas stretching from the mid-Atlantic to the Canadian border.

In addition, Nantucket has the highest incident rate of human and seal interaction in the country. MMAN's mission of education and advocacy, and our valuable service to Nantucket's marine mammal life, are an essential part of the island community.
