    The Development Director is a member of the senior leadership team at Fairwinds and is responsible for all fundraising, grants, marketing, and public relations efforts of Fairwinds. The ideal candidate will have experience leading all aspects of development and marketing functions, strong organizational skills, proven management skills, and a desire to be part of a dynamic team of professionals leading this small but powerful agency. Because fundraising is critical to Fairwinds’ ability to achieve its core mission to serve all who need support regardless of the ability to pay or other barriers, it is imperative that the person in this role be passionate about public health, knowledgeable about the Nantucket community, and dedicated to a high standard of excellence. This full-time exempt position manages a team of professionals and reports directly to the executive director.
    The following is an explanation of the duties of the Development Director. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the executive director as required.
    Fundraising and Grant Writing
    • Provide leadership and direction to create, develop, coordinate, administer and ensure effective fundraising efforts for the agency 
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan and calendar
    • Be responsible for the agency’s overall fundraising goal of approximately $1.4 million
    • Working with the executive director, cultivate, develop, and steward the organization’s top donors and grantors
    • Organize and manage donor cultivation and stewardship
    • Manage and fulfill all donor benefits, including annual campaign and business sponsorships
    • Research and draft proposals for foundation, county, state, federal and corporate grants
    • Research and develop new donor prospect/acquisition efforts
    • Design and manage all special events
    • Coordinate semi-annual appeal mailing campaigns
    • Working with the development associate, act as senior administrator of all donor databases and manage all records, files, and gift processing
    • Working with the executive director, manage the activities of the development committee, advisory board, and other bodies as assigned
    • Communicate and represent all fundraising activities with colleagues on the senior leadership team, and solicit participation from colleagues where appropriate
    • Supervise all functions of the development associate
    • Other duties as assigned
    Marketing and Public Relations
    Oversee all marketing and public relations efforts at Fairwinds
    • Create and manage all press releases, annual reports, blogs, PR pieces, and other content for the agency
    • Manage a comprehensive advertising plan for the agency in concert with the marketing and communications director
    • Supervise all functions of the marketing and communications director
    External Relations
    • Represent Fairwinds as a member of senior leadership at external events, donor events, and community gatherings as assigned
    • Develop and manage all agency-wide pitch decks, mission decks, and other communications platforms

    • 3-5 years’ fundraising and marketing experience, preferably in a senior role
    • 1-2 years’ supervisory experience
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred
    • Deep knowledge of the Nantucket Community preferred
    • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (oral and written)
