Wine Tasting 101 with Ieva Aldins – An Experiential Journey
As we approach the 2018 Nantucket Wine and Food Festival, join Sommelier Ieva Aldins on an experiential journey into wine tasting in which we will learn a vocabulary of aromatic and taste components through our senses.
In this class we will begin by smelling items we often hear people speak of - what do wet rocks, stewed fruit and vegetal notes actually smell like? Next you will be lead through the scientific taste components of wine that define it's character, such as acid, sugar, and tannins.
The class will culminate by deductively tasting wines and applying your new found skills. This class is educational, fun and meant to make wine accessible to all. No prior wine knowledge necessary. Limited to 24 people. Must be 21 to attend.
A little more about our instructor:
Ieva fell in love with wine while living in San Francisco in close proximity to Napa and Sonoma. Eventually, life led her back to Nantucket where she had spent some summers as a young lady. She took a sommelier position at American Seasons and then Straight Wharf Restaurant. As a sommelier, Ieva is committed to sharing her enjoyment and knowledge of wine in a manner that is approachable and inviting to all.
"At the heart of enjoying wine, is the company you are with, the stories it evokes and the story it creates. For me a great wine is poetry in a glass." Ieva
