Did you know that there are over 60 distinct bee keepers on Nantucket?
Sustainable Nantucket’s beekeeper mentoring program begins its third year with an Introduction to Beekeeping event on Sept. 6 at 11 a.m. at Sustainable Nantucket’s Walter F. Ballinger Educational Community Farm at 168 Hummock Pond Road.
Come out to the farm and learn about bees, beekeeping, equipment, the costs and the sweet rewards! Equipment and bee colony cost and resources sheet will be provided. Those who commit to beekeeping for the 2021 season will be assigned a beekeeping mentor from Nantucket’s bACKyard Beekeepers group and asked to keep at least one or more of their hives at Sustainable’s farm.
After the talk, those who want to can suit up in bee suits and take a look inside an active beehive guided by Peter Brace. Please, no dogs at the farm.
