Painting the Portrait in Watercolor with Artist in Residence Mario A. Robinson
Elevate your watercolor skills and powers of observation with AAN's Artist in Residence Mario A. Robinson by completing a comprehensive watercolor from a live model. Through demonstrations and individual instruction, master watercolorist Mario teaches students how a methodical approach increases depth and sense of realism?. Students will execute a detailed drawing and learn how to employ a monochromatic “block-in” to properly identify the values of the painting. The class will culminate with a full application of color, using thinly glazed watercolor. There will also be an opportunity to paint en plein air (weather permitting) one of the three days.
MARIO A. ROBINSON is a watercolorist, pastel artist and oil painter who is a member of the National Arts Club, Salmagundi Club, and Pastel Society of America. His work has been featured in many prestigious art magazines, including the cover of American Artist magazine. While earning his BFA at Pratt Institute, Mario studied classical techniques, becoming an avid student of realism. However, his own sensibility of realism is distinctly defined by American painters like Wyeth, Homer, and Eakins. With a timeless, universal aesthetic Mario depicts simple day to day moments of solitude and reflection. Among his numerous awards and accolades, Mario was chosen to paint a portrait of one of the Charleston Church Shooting victims. Widely collected painter, award winning artist, Youtube demo-er, and workshop teacher, Mario is also the author of Lessons in Realistic Watercolor, and an Winsor Newton Ambassador. www.marioarobinson.com
