    Name: Free Community Day at the Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum
    Date: February 9, 2019
    Time: 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM EST
    Event Description:

    Egan Maritime is delighted to announce that the Nantucket Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum will open for a free community day on Saturday, February 9 from 10am to 3pm, with free admission for all. The Museum’s permanent exhibit will be on view, along with a last chance viewing of the 2018 special exhibition Courage & Calamity, Fifty Ships Against the Sea which features an indoor boat model for children to play on.

    In addition to free admission, the Museum will have a special speaker, and a variety of family-friendly, hands-on activities to enjoy. The day includes:

    • Guided tours in English and Spanish;
    • Quarterboards and morse code activities for kids;
    • 11am talk with island author and guide, Peter Brace, who will be discussing the geological forces that made the island, the harbor and salt marshes—including Folger’s Marsh located next to the Museum—and the Native Americans that lived in the area;
    • Short maritime Nantucket films, and dramatic island shipwreck and rescue stories;
    • 50% off select Museum Shop items;
    • Door prizes and good company for all ages.
