Nantucket’s 43rd Annual Daffodil Festival Weekend (April 28-30) went off without a hitch… or with a hitch, if you consider the 100+ brilliantly festooned antique automobiles (and 2 motorcycles!) gracing the Main Street cobblestones for the weekend’s central event. Teeming crowds of locals and visitors alike welcomed Spring in glorious fashion, with chapeaus, doorways, pets, Packards….and more… bedecked in every shade of scintillating YELLOW in homage to the sunny “signature” bulb growing in wild profusion on our diminutive island.
This wacky and wonderful welcome to warmer weather kicks off a flurry of festivals to round out the months of May and June. Oenophiles flock to our shores for Wine Festival Weekend (May 17-21) to celebrate—and sample—the fruit of the vine . Highlighted by a Harbor Gala, Grand Tastings and informative seminars hosted by notables in the world of food and wine, this event is not to be missed! Cruise over for Spring Restaurant Week (June 5-11) when a number of acclaimed island restaurants offer attractively priced prix fixe menus to showcase their formidable culinary talent. Nantucket Book Festival (June 16-18)—a celebration of literature, community and the written word—features renowned literary figures, a cornucopia of lectures, staged readings, and meet-the-author events; this multi-faceted festival welcomes Alice Hoffman, Jodi Picoult, Robert Pinsky and others this year. From June 21-26, the wildly popular Nantucket Film Festival delivers a variety of eclectic first-run movies to our shores. An homage to the screenwriter’s craft, this six-day event features Late Night Storytelling, staged readings, “Morning Coffee With” and a glittering Screenwriter’s Tribute –attended by locals and luminaries alike—at the ‘Sconset Casino
