Regular flights also depart from Hyannis, on Cape Cod, and New Bedford, Massachusetts. For the more tradition-oriented, ferry service runs out of Hyannis year-round, including one-hour high speed ferries. And once on the island, transportation is easy. The island is a classic walking destination: the historic downtown, where most inns, hotels, restaurants and shops are located, is easier to traverse by foot than by automobile. An extensive system of bicycle paths crisscross Nantucket, and from May through October the Nantucket Regional Transit Authority (NRTA) operates a comprehensive shuttle bus system to all ends of the island.
