For the more tradition-oriented traveler, ferry service runs out of Hyannis, MA year round including one-hour high speed ferries. Once on Nantucket, transportation is easy. The island is a classic walking destination: the historic downtown where many inns and shops are located is easier to transverse by foot than automobile. An extensive system of bicycle paths crisscross Nantucket and the Nantucket Regional Transit Authority (NRTA) operates a seasonal public shuttle bus (The Wave) to all ends of the island.
