VISION:

The Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce will be recognized and respected for strengthening the collaborative partnership with our members and for promoting the advantages of living and working in, and visiting our community.

GOAL 1
INCREASE OUR MEMBERSHIP BASE, AND MAKE IT MORE INVOLVED, MORE ACTIVE, AND MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE.
Objective 1

To encourage the rapid assimilation of new members into the Chamber, thereby creating more immediate, active support by new members

Action Steps:
  1. Reestablish the Membership Committee
     
  2. Develop a New Member Buddy Program
     
  3. Create a dynamic quarterly newsletter, with contributions from the Island’s associations, Chamber members, and other pertinent contributors 
     
  4. Survey our membership on a biannual basis, to determine current needs and wants

To create an Association Roundtable to discuss issues of common concern, and to create and share solutions

  1. Survey members biannually to determine needs, questions, and concerns
     
  2. Offer 2-3 seminars annually
GOAL 2
TO TAKE A LEADERSHIP ROLE IN EMPLOYMENT ISSUES
Objective 1
To lead Nantucket's efforts to resolve H-2B visa issues
Action Steps:
  1. Strengthen lobbying efforts for legislative solutions
     
  2. Be an H-2B visa informational conduit for members
     
  3. Expand collaborative efforts with regional and national groups
Objective 2

Act as a clearinghouse to direct members to employee recruitment opportunities (including H-2B visa, J-I visa, year-round and seasonal residents, students, and retirees)

Action Steps:
  1. Collaborate with other (alternate season) resort areas
     
  2. Organize Nantucket business to business collaborations
     
  3. Post employment opportunities on Chamber web site and office job book on a year-round basis
Objective 3

Increase participation with local housing groups to help improve housing opportunities on Nantucket.  Specific initiatives may include first-time home buyers'’ seminars, helping create a housing resource guide, and preferred programs for employee housing

Action Steps:
  1. Support staggered restaurant closings.
     
  2. Support projects such as 2 Centre Street restoration as arts center and other downtown-related efforts.
     
  3. Raise public awareness of downtown businesses that are open year-round
Objective 4

Collaborate with Nantucket and Cape Cod organizations to help make workforce development programs available.

Action Steps:
  1. Expand and enhance the “Nantucket 101” program
     
  2. Research creation of program in DVD format
     
  3. Explore the establishment of a Hospitality Institute at Cape Cod Community College
     
  4. Collaborate with Cape Cod Chamber’s Hyannis EntreCenter and Workforce Development Board
