What Is Buddhism?
The Course: What Is Buddhism?
Buddhism has proved to be hugely popular in the west, yet it is not a traditional religion or even merely a philosophy. What is it then? And how does one practise it? In this three-session course, we will be exploring what it was the Buddha experienced in gaining Enlightenment, and how it is relevant to our lives today. In particular, we'll be looking at: the Buddha, the founder
of Buddhism; the Dharma, the philosophy teaching of the Buddha, in particular in terms of ethics, meditation, and wisdom; and the Shangha, the Buddhist community, both historically and as a lived experience today.
The course is open to everyone. No experience of meditation is necessary. While an interest in Buddhism is assumed, you don't have to be a Buddhist to take the course.
